For the past 2 years I took part in myspace_ldz
street project which aims to bring life into old shop
displays which are ment to advertise shops located in
the backyards. They are sometimes old and not
inhibited anymore. Some artists were introduced to
work on the boxes. Me as well. The idea is brilliant
however the organization of the event leaves much to
be desired. Terrible mail contact, money matters and
most of all protection of our works- is what bugs me
most.
It's clear that life span of some works is short and depends on kind of material is used to create your display. Especially when the organizers tell you that the event will last only for a month you do not seem to be worried about the durability of your work. I always put my heart in my projects either it was in 2007 when I had to bring 5 kilos of soil or in 2008 when creating paper doll house. Later on you learn that the project lasts a year until next opening.
It's pretty obvious that when you live in different city you do not have opportunity to take care of your work. But you put faith in the organizers who will from time to time look if everything is ok. I hear from people who write to me about my work that the roof fell from the house and smashed Tusia. It's devastating news but I know that not irreversible. Some time ago I wrote to one of the organizers describing the status quo and politely asked to have a look and maybe pick up the roof and glue it to the wall. The whole operation shouldn't take longer than 2 minutes including opening and closing the window. Unfortunately nothing has been changed since that time.
I could write more and more about myspace_ldz regarding publishing of the catalog, distribution of $ for the artists and so on. However, I will leave the topic at this point saying that there is no chance for me to take part in this year action! I am way too disappointed!
